The Wisdom of Reality TV: You’re Cut Off! http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/07/12/the-wisdom-of-reality-tv-youre-cut-off/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/07/12/the-wisdom-of-reality-tv-youre-cut-off/#comments Mon, 12 Jul 2010 08:59:50 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=245 I am not one modeled after your traditional metaphysician/guru/spiritual teacher: I watch television. Let me explain: I do not watch loads of television by any means, and I have spent as many as 2 years straight without owning a television or seeing a single program, but in my developed discretion and wisdom I do find value in certain programming from time to time. One reason I find value in some television is because I never forget that the people I am attempting to reach to steer toward “greater spiritual elevation” are trapped in a world of watching television, listening to mainstream music, and following the latest trends. If I don’t at least keep an eye on that world, I will have no idea how to speak to someone who lives in that world.

One such unlikely candidate for value and wisdom is the VH1 reality program, “You’re Cut Off!” I am very mindful that there are a mixture of perhaps some “real” characters and “reality television actresses” such as Houston Texas resident Erica Rose, formerly of “The Bachelor” fame (http://talkingmakeup.com/celebrity-beauty-style/interviews/erica-rose-interviews-with-marta-walsh/), however there is some merit to be found in the show. Even though the reality television actress was thrown into a mix of reality television actresses and “real” pampered princesses, the claim is that none of them really knew what they were stepping into. They were reportedly told that they would be appearing on a show called, “The Good Life”, and would be filmed shopping and being socialites living it up in and about Los Angeles County, especially Rodeo Drive in Hollywood. Only upon arrival did they find out that they would be participating in an 8-week trial under the supervision of a life-coach. Even if the entire drama is an act, it is an act that has merit in teaching a few valuable lessons, just as fiction can often teach good lessons when based in some measure of truth.

For many of us “average joes”, You’re Cut off! is an opportunity for the “have-nots” to point fingers and judge socialites who have more than we’ll likely ever have as they face “the real world”. The fortunate person is the one who digs deeper, and sees themselves in the show. No, its not likely that you or your significant other walk around in a tiara, shop exclusively in high-end stores for designer fashions, and don’t have a clue as to how to seek out a bargain of some kind, but these type of behaviors are based upon the same type of spiritual dis-ease and disconnects found amongst us all in some form or fashion. The value is that the individuals in the show are amongst other things taken to a Buddhist monastery as well as put through other exercises to discover the real Self, and of course some do to certain degrees of awakening while others do not.

Many of us wear social masks to hide who we really are, not only from others but from ourselves. Be it makeup, clothing, job titles, social status or another diversionary tool, many of us utilize an illusory tool to mask our true identity from the outside world. Is “You’re Cut Off!” a cure to the ills of society for its viewers? Not at all, but what it can serve to be is a introductory paragraph to an essay or even a full-length novel of the story of transformation for many of us. It all depends on whether we progress from the first paragraph to the next. Not everyone we meet is going to pick up a good metaphysical book, watch or read The Secret, go to a new thought seminar, or enroll the services of a life-coach, at least not at first. Good fiction has always had the ability to teach us a good lesson, and today’s brand of reality television sometimes keeps that tradition alive, and may open the door for some to take the next step in self-development.

Can You Like The Boondocks and Tyler Perry Too? http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/07/01/boondocks-tyler-perry/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/07/01/boondocks-tyler-perry/#comments Thu, 01 Jul 2010 22:35:43 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=239 Daddy’s Little Girls is one of my favorite movies. In a Hollywood market where Black fathers fighting to keep their children by any means necessary are rare sightings, Tyler Perry brought a cinematic gem out of Atlanta to the bring this scenario prominently to the big screen. Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too are, in my opinion, great films making us all reflect on the reasons behind why we enter into the union of marriage and the trials we go through in married life. I can understand certain people in the Black community having a distaste for men dressing in drag, or lampooning figures like the character Mr. Brown that appears in several of Tyler Perry’s movies and plays. However, Perry’s work includes a lot more than this as shown by the aforementioned movies as well as The Family Preys, that includes exceptional screenwriting, directing, producing, acting and life lessons that can be appreciated by many. However, with success comes critics and their criticism, and one must be able to take that criticism in stride when encountering massive success such as Tyler Perry has experienced. It is often said that if you are not being criticized then you aren’t really making a difference. I am a huge fan of Aaron McGruder and his Boondocks series, and must say I found his June 21st’s episode entitled Pause exceptional and full of shock value. The Boondocks episode Pause satirized Tyler Perry and his character Madea. McGruder’s style is satire and dark comedy, specifically dealing with the Black community and issues commonly faced in the Black community, so getting satirized in The Boondocks is actually par for the course, and actually a testament to the accomplishments of Tyler Perry. I find the character Madea funny at times, however if Perry is going to promote himself using a character brought about by him cross-dressing, then he will have to be prepared for criticism about his sexuality, particularly as a single man with a very private sex life. Right or wrong, it is the cost of success. What I really thought was full of shock value was the inference that Perry ran a cult-like compound at his Atlanta mansion. Perhaps McGruder went over the top when he made the cult inferences. Of course when overtly promoting Christianity or any particular religion in the mainstream, again one is opening the door to criticism from those who do not necessarily subscribe to this point of view.Overall,  I see the entire scenario of McGruder vs. Perry as one that expresses the full range of free-will and cause and effect. There is so much to gain from the creative works of these two talented individuals that taking sides would simply take away from the experience of appreciating multiple perspectives and the fullness of life.

Find a Job with Law of Attraction http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/17/find-a-job-with-law-of-attraction/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/17/find-a-job-with-law-of-attraction/#comments Thu, 17 Jun 2010 06:36:16 +0000 Lorna.Levy http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=215 by: Lorna Levy

“If I get to pick what I want to do, then it’s play. . .
if someone else tells me that I have to do it, then it’s work.” -Unknown

Some folks are good at creating relationships, some at creating money. One thing I’ve always been able to do easily is create wonderful jobs for myself. Over the years, I’ve taught this skill to many of my clients. Here’s how: Rather than concentrate on a specific position at a specific place, think more about what elements you’d like to have in your job.

Take a moment to see yourself working. Visualize yourself doing whatever it is you want to do. If you are not sure what you want to do, ask yourself things like: Do I like working with people or alone, do I want to be in an office or outside, do I want to work with computers and electronic equipment, or with people? Or both?

What kinds of people do you want to work with – needy people, sick people, children, elders, people who are your equal in some way, customer service, sales, computer nerds, or doctors? Fun people? Serious people? Easy-going or hard-driving people? Helpful people? Do you want regular hours and regular responsibilities, or do you want freedom and flexibility in hours and job tasks?

Then move on to how you want to feel in a job. You probably want to feel emotions like: trusted, competent, praised and appreciated, happy with your pay check, friendly with your co-workers, liked by your co-workers, eager to get there each day, a sense of accomplishment, and so on. Make your own list.

What is your environment like? Do you want to drive or take the bus to get there? How do you like to dress – jeans and sneakers or professional business attire? Of course, these are not either – or questions, and there is no right answer. It is fine to say, “Yes, I want that AND that” Ask yourself as many of these as you can think of.

Write out your perfect day at work. What would you be doing? Who would you see? What is your schedule – how do you fill your time?

Then begin to visualize and FEEEEEL yourself there. See your interactions with co-workers and clients, hear the conversations, how is your office or cubicle decorated, hear the praise of a job well done, see your pay check in your hand – or your direct deposit statement – and feel glad and happy at the amount and feel anticipation at the ways you will spend it. Let your imagination go. Do this as often as you think of it, without any pressure on yourself. It should always feel good and be fun to do. If it feels like a task, or if any bad feelings or thoughts come up like, “This could never happen to me”, stop and go do something else until you can get yourself back into a positive mood. Each time you visualize, do it for 3-5 minutes or so. Not very long.

When I did corporate consulting and was wanting a new client, I would affirm things like: I want enough personal time. I want to love what I do. I want to wake up each morning looking forward to being there. I want to feel valued and appreciated. I want to talk to people. I want to have fun and laugh a lot. I want to be playful – and since I’m often playful with words, I want to be understood. In terms of kinds of people I wanted to work with, I would say: I work with easy–going people who laugh a lot. I work with people who are helpful. I work with people who easily share credit for our accomplishments. I work with people who are intelligent, and competent and capable. I work with people who are friendly. I work with people who share my interests and are easy to talk to. I work with people who have the same education level as I.

For environment, I would focus on: I work in a beautiful, quiet space where I have my own ample area to work, decorated the way I like. Your desire might be to work in a bustling hive of activity where something new is always happening to keep you on your toes. I would go on to affirm: We have the best coffee at my office and there are lots of good and cheap restaurants in the neighborhood for lunch. My hours are flexible and I can work whatever hours suit me as long as I get my work done. My client gives me absolute trust and total freedom, but is available if I need to ask questions. I have an easy commute. There are lots of handsome, single men at my job. (If you want that.) And for pay, I wrote: Every time I look at my paycheck, I’m thrilled. I make more money than ever before. I feel valued and important. I am happy with my salary.

Some of what I wrote when I created my coaching job was: I like people whose eyes squinch when they laugh. I want to express my truth and my knowing. I want to help. I want to give aha’s to everybody. Freedom – yes! And free time – yes! Convenient, beautiful environment. Beautiful!!! Good coffee!!! Savvy, intelligent, funny people – yes! Music! And fresh flowers always on my desk.

It doesn’t matter if you write in the future tense, “I want . . “ or if you write in present tense, “I have . . “. Write it in the way that is most believable to you and that brings you the best feelings when you say it or think about it. The Universe hears your feelings, not your words. Read over what you’ve written as frequently as you can and feel the fun and joy and satisfaction of having the job of your dreams. Say it over to yourself when you think about it; it doesn’t have to be verbatim, but just think about the qualities you want to have.

Ask your Higher Self to guide you to opportunities that match what you like. (Not match what you think you are ‘’supposed’ to do or ‘qualified for’.)

Then begin to ‘act as if’. What will you do when you have that job? Do it now. Will you drive a new car? Pretend your car is the new car – smell the new car smell when you get in. Will you shop at different places? Begin to shop there now – window shopping or buying small things you can afford. Do whatever you can to step into the role you want. If you still don’t know exactly how this job might look, see yourself as a confident, prosperous person and act that way. When I wanted to develop my coaching business, I had a ‘coach’ walk. Every time I noticed myself walking dejectedly to my then job, I asked myself how would I walk if I had the job I really wanted. And I began to walk like that. It was subtle, but I threw my shoulders back a little and held up my head a little higher, and then I felt the excitement of the job I was creating.

As you feel guided by your intuition, send out resumes and go to interviews. When you do either, see them first, in your mind’s eye, being well received. See your resume being set aside as “a special person we want to call in”. Before the interview, see yourself feeling poised and confident, then see and hear the interviewer shaking your hand after the interview and saying she or he is “sure you are perfect for the job and welcome aboard!”.

Allow yourself to feel the joy of anticipation and your dream job will come very quickly. I promise.

Teddi B Poetic With It! http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/15/teddi-b-poetic-with-it/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/15/teddi-b-poetic-with-it/#comments Tue, 15 Jun 2010 16:22:31 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=218 The first spoken word piece I heard from Chris ‘Teddi-B Poetic’ Vaughn was a short, simple, conversational piece that floored me with its power. No, it wasn’t prolific rhyme schemes or swift delivery that won me over. It was the profundity of the statement it made, and it let me know that Teddi-B Poetic was all about “being about it”, and learned that through experience. Don’t get me wrong: Chris ‘Teddi-B Poetic’ Vaughn has great rhyme schemes and great flow to his spoken word pieces as well, but it is his content and the sincerity in which he delivers it that catches one’s attention. Teddi-B Poetic has definitely crystallized his vision into reality, which is what the What If God Were One Of Us Show is all about .

Join us on the What If God Were One Of Us Show tonight on www.whatifgod.org at 7PM Eastern Tuesday night, or catch the archives of the show anytime afterward here on the What If God…Blog as we host Chris ‘Teddi B-Poetic’ Vaughn and discuss his approach to spoken word, his development as a spoken word artist, and his forthcoming book, due in July 2010.

Poetically Speaking, Its Just Bill http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/07/just-bill/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/07/just-bill/#comments Tue, 08 Jun 2010 02:15:08 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=193 William S. Peters Sr., popularly and affectionately known as “Just Bill”, has been raising consciousness through the written and spoken word for years. He has a way of inspiring  masses of people to discover their inner child, which is probably why the name of his website is innerchildenterprises.com. Jesus is quoted in the Bible as saying, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”; well, after listening to Bill’s work, I think  he is on to something here.  He describes himself as but a gardener on a journey sowing seeds of love and light, which I must say accurately describes his mission if his work after listening to his latest spoken word pieces. Ancient Persian poet Rumi sowed seeds of love and light centuries ago in masses of people who heard him, and through the recording of his work in books he continues to sow those seeds in generation after generation. Perhaps one day our great great grandchildren will say the same about Just Bill.

Please take a listen to one of Bill’s latest spoken word releases, Free Thinker, and check Bill out as I have him on as a guest on the What If God Were One Of Us Show on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 at 7 PM Eastern, on www.whatifgod.org, as we discuss his new CD, Free Thinker, his new book, The Light In The Window, and his book and CD release tour.

If like attracts like: Why do opposites attract? http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/02/if-like-attracts-like-why-do-opposites-attract/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/02/if-like-attracts-like-why-do-opposites-attract/#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 05:39:49 +0000 Lorna.Levy http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=177 By: Lorna Levy The Law of Attraction Teacher

Your world is a grand mirror,
constantly reflecting
your state of consciousness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Neville)
Law of attraction is always working. It is just that some confusion exists about how it works. A deeper understanding is needed to know why we’re getting what we don’t want and how to change it to get what we want.
Like attracts like according to our dominant vibrations. Another way of saying this is we attract according to our beliefs. Law of Attraction is not working according to our thoughts, wants or desires UNLESS our beliefs and dominant vibrations are in harmony with them. When we see someone attracting a particular situation, we can never know what their vibration is on the subject.
So if we have a desire, but our dominant beliefs or thoughts are of lack, then we get lack. This is an appearance of opposites but it is actually like attracting like. If we want a relationship, but our dominant belief is that we are unworthy, either we don’t get a relationship, or we get one that makes us feel unworthy. If we have a strong belief in difficulty and struggle, we may sometimes get what we want and lose it. When we want wealth and financial ease but we constantly think about how much we want it and don’t yet have it, we draw to us experiences of lack and frustration.
Our dominant vibe may not be what we think it is. Often we are too close to it to see it for the belief that it is. Our beliefs are transparent to us; we act through them as if we are looking through a dirty pane of glass. Often, we take our dominant vibes as reality and we act on these beliefs without realizing how strongly we are influenced by them. Remember: beliefs are ideas about reality, not reality itself. With awareness we can see these beliefs for what they are and not the ‘reality’ that we take for granted.
Our dominant creating mechanism is moving toward wholeness. We and I include all consciousnesses on earth – are always moving toward greater self expression and greater expression of Source through us. So whatever we vibrate is what we get more of. We get to chose whether our self expression will be joyful or limiting.
So the question always arises: Why do positive poles of a magnet repel and opposite poles attract? A magnet is a device that allows the flow of magnetic energy. That is its ‘wholeness’. Two positive poles together don’t allow this flow. Consequently they don’t create a ‘wholeness’ for the magnet. A positive and a negative allow the magnet to express it’s fullness as a ‘being’ that flows of energy. When two or more magnets are placed end to end, they create an even bigger magnet. Self expression at its greatest. (“Whenever two or more are gathered in my name…”)
Two similar energies do not create harmony or a chord. Two similar energies are just more of the same – there is no contrast that creates beauty, pattern, or energy. For balance, there has to be an up and a down. Even light only appears in relation to its lack and a vibrating wave has both an up phase and a down phase – not just an up.. A victim has a need to feel victimized. Another victim would not fulfill the need. An aggressor has a need to be aggressive toward a person with a victim consciousness. Two aggressors cancel each other out. Remember, in elementary school, as soon as someone stepped up to the bully, he’d stop being a bully and they often ended up as friends?
The mystery of ‘like attracts like’ might be better expressed as complementary energies coming together to create a ‘whole’. Consider it as polarities rather than opposites. Think of a lock and key, or a hand and glove or a hotdog and bun. So with greater wholeness as the objective, it can sometime appear that opposites attract, when actually it is all for the greater expression of the One.
Not sure this is clear to you all, but it sure is clear to me. (laughing)
Book Review: Ultimate Truth, Book I http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/01/book-review-ultimate-truth-book-i/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/06/01/book-review-ultimate-truth-book-i/#comments Tue, 01 Jun 2010 09:02:32 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=175 This book is Ultimate Truth, not the ultimate truth, is what the book’s author Dr. Peter C. Rogers will point out when you speak to him. One point that the reader gets right away is that Dr. Rogers attempts to get people to get away from looking for or proclaiming their viewpoint as ‘the’ ultimate truth. Dr. Rogers reveals his past and path of discovery, in which he outlines how the blind faith of his family angered him at first and led him on a path of self-discovery that began with attempting to claim other labels in the name of religion before realizing that labels and titles were what held him back from true self-discovery. This led the author to eventually to a path of metaphysics and thus a metaphysical discovery that truth itself was not absolute but contained in many cultures and spiritual traditions, but even more profoundly in every atom and subatomic particle in existence.
Rogers takes painstaking care to walk the reader through concepts such as Law of Attraction, Gaia, Christ Consciousness and Zen to name a few, then delves into various religious practices from African Traditional Religions to Zoroastrianism and everything in between, pointing out the ‘truths’ that exist in each one. This work definitely serves as a smörgåsbord of religious reference that allows any reader to understand the common threads of truth in each religion throughout the world in as succinct a fashion as possible. In a timely fashion, the book concludes with a perspective on the Mayan prophecy of December 21, 2012 and Dr. Rogers perspective on the meaning of this particular date and prophecy. Ultimate Truth is definitely a book worth reading, as it will open the reader’s mind to thoughts previously undiscovered in one’s own mind, leading the reader to a course of personal discovery in spirituality.
Response-Ability Instead of Blame and Guilt http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/05/27/response-ability-instead-of-blame-and-guilt/ http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/2010/05/27/response-ability-instead-of-blame-and-guilt/#comments Thu, 27 May 2010 07:55:40 +0000 Adeeb Shabazz http://freedompathonline.org/godblog/?p=168 I like to break the word responsibility down to “response”, and “ability”, because the best definition of responsibility is the ability to give a proper response to a situation or circumstance. I grew up learning a creed that stated that the civilized had a duty to teach the uncivilized. What it boils down to is the old saying, “with knowledge comes responsibility.” When we complain, moan, point fingers at others, or in any way attempt to act like we are not responsible we are perpetuating the very situations that we are unhappy about. A bill we created that we cannot currently pay needs to be met with an attitude of responsibility, not to say that we can pay it right at this moment, but to say that we take ownership and understand that we owe the amount and will do what we can to make recompense. Even further, when we are in a recession, a slow job market, a slow housing market, a heavy crime spree, or whatever the case may be, although we may not have committed any single act to directly contribute to the ill situations, we must take ownership because the world does not run as compartments, but instead as a whole entity. Have we done all that we can to help stop crime? Have we done all we can to stimulate the economy? If we truly examine ourselves, we often will find that we have not, and we then should take the creative response and ask, “how can I help”.
We must separate taking responsibility from being to blame or feeling guilty about a situation. We are not guilty nor to blame for situations that we did not directly cause. Even those that we did cause directly cannot be solved with guilt or blame. We must instead take responsibility for the circumstance as it is right in this moment, then ask, “how can I help?”, and then respond with the measure of our abilities. It is that simple. If everyone responded to situations and circumstances in the world just with the abilities they had, then we’d have a fully peaceful world. Even a quarter of people doing this would revolutionize the world; yet it all starts with one: you. By taking this type of action daily you can affect many, and in turn they will affect many also in a positive fashion. We need not look for the solution, because it rests within ourselves; put it into action today!
